The 2019 statistics regarding volume were greatly affected by the fact that Wasa Express was on shipyard 3 weeks in January (January 5-21) and by the Sailors Union’s support strike in November. The strike meant that 4 departures were not allowed transport freight and 8 trips were completely canceled. The strike has also had a long-lasting negative effect on the freight booking during the rest of the year 2019.
In 2019 Wasaline only had 826 departures in reference to 850 in 2018.
Despite a long stay at the shipyard and the Sailors Union strike in November, it was a good year for Wasaline with an unchanged turnover of 19.6 million euro for 2019.
A total of 204,704 passengers were transported in 2019 (-3.5%), which was the second consecutive year that more than 200,000 passengers were transported. 46,312 (-1,4%) passenger vehicles were transported and 15,194 freight units (-4,3%).
” It has been a challenging year. Everyone who works here has probably over-performed this year with increased workload as the new construction project is in an intensive phase. Keel laying is already in February 2020 and the planning and construction of Aurora Botnia goes completely according to schedule. I look forward to 2020 and with the great crew we have on board and onshore, I am confident that we will go towards new successes.”, says Peter Ståhlberg, CEO of Wasaline.
