Age policy

There are no age restrictions in passenger traffic, except for some divergent departures, see below.

Young persons and children under 18 years can travel alone when they have a written permit from their parent or guardian. The written permit can be checked with the parents or the guardian by phone.

Travel permit form

A young person presents the written permit together with the boarding card when boarding. The young person must, upon request, certify her/his identity and inform the guardian’s contact details. Accepted identity cards are a driving license, an official identity card or a passport.

Exceptions

Hotel trips to Sweden and Finland; the age limit is 18 years every day.

The age limit for following departures are 18 in both harbours: Christmas cruises and New Year cruises.

On Saturday departures from Umeå at 18:00 the age limit is 15 years. Youngsters between 15-17 years can travel alone with a written permit from their parents or guardian.

Age Requirements for Cruising

The age limit for Day Cruising (departure and return on the same day) is 18 years. Youngsters between 15-17 years can participate in a Day Cruise with a written permit from their parents or guardian. The written permit can be checked with the parents or the guardian by phone. Form for youngsters travelling alone.

The age limit for an overnight cruise is 18 years without exceptions (Party cruise).

The bar is appropriate for adults only in the evenings. During daytime and early evening, all children and young people are welcome!

The guardians are responsible for their children and underage persons during the trip.

Guides/Leaders

Who can act as a guide/leader for individual persons, who does not fulfil the age requirements?

  • Persons over 20 years.

 

Children´s friends joining the trip

When own parents (mother/father), legal guardian (also stepmother/dad) or grandparents are present on the trip, up to three of the children’s friends can join the family on the trip.

Cancellation of bookings

Cancellations of route bookings, cruises and package bookings
If you are unable to depart on a journey, you should cancel or amend your reservation immediately and at the latest 48 hours before departure. This can be done by calling our customer service at +358207716810 or +4690185200 or by email at info@wasaline.com. Please note that emails are read Monday to Friday during office hours.
Changes to date, route, number of passengers, vehicles etc. are all considered amendments.

Return tickets and cruises 
When cancelling a return leg, the rules as written below apply. For cruises, no refunds will be authorized after the commencement of the journey.

If the first leg of a journey has not been used or cancelled, the shipping company has a right to cancel the returning journey.
For paid reservations cancelled:

  • Earlier than 7 days prior to departure, 10% of the price or a minimum of 10 EUR / 100 SEK is charged.
  • Later than 7 days but earlier than 2 days prior to departure, 50% of the price is charged.
  • Reservations cancelled later than 2 days prior to departure are charged the full price.
  • If the reservation is cancelled later than 7 days prior to departure due to illness we charge a 10 EUR / 100 SEK cancellation fee. The reason for cancellation is to be proved with a doctor’s certificate.

Cancellation of unpaid package bookings: 
Unpaid package bookings must be cancelled at the latest 48 hours before departure, otherwise the full package price will be charged.

Reimbursement of cancelled bookings

Please contact us via telephone or email with your booking number and your IBAN account number and Swift code of your bank.

Cancellation terms for groups

The whole reservation may be cancelled up to 8 workdays before departure without any cost.
If the whole reservation is cancelled within 7-3 workdays before departure, we charge you 10% of the whole reservation.
We charge 100% of the whole reservation, if the reservation is cancelled 2 workdays before departure or later.
We charge 50% of the ticket price for passengers cancelled from a group reservation 7-3 workdays before departure.
We charge 100% of the ticket price for all passengers cancelled from a group reservation 2 workdays before the departure or later.

Name changes are free of charge.

The name list including; Group name, booking reference, Surname, First name, DOB (ddmmyy) is sent to group@wasaline.com no later than 3 days before departure.

Routines for refunding payments

Contact our booking staff and state your booking number, the clearing number of your bank and your account number if the refund is to be done to a Swedish account, or your Swift number if the refund is to be done in Finland.

To make a purchase, EUR and SEK currencies are accepted both on-board and at ports, but in ports possible change is always given in local currency. The following credit cards are also accepted:

Health

HEALTH

Persons with health issues should consult their doctor regarding travel plans prior to making a reservation.

For safety reasons we do not recommend travelling in advanced pregnancy.

Passengers with wheelchair are encouraged to use the gangway when boarding, since close access to a passenger lift on the car deck cannot be guaranteed. Our personnel will be happy to provide more information if needed.

ID control

ID CONTROL

The International Maritime Organization IMO’s full meeting unanimously decided in November 2001 to intensify port and ship security. The regulations are in use from July 2004.

Citizens of the Nordic countries travelling within the Nordic region are not required to have a passport, but will need to be able to present a valid, reliable proof of identity when requested. Such documents are:

Finnish personal health insurance card issued by KELA card with a photo, children under the age of 15 may use KELA card without a photo. Obligation to prove identity applies to all passengers. Person who cannot or is unwilling to prove or reveal his/her identity upon request is denied boarding.

Passport and visa regulations
Non-European citizens will need a valid passport to travel to Wasaline’s destinations.

A passenger is obligated to find out whether or not he/she needs to apply for a visa based on his/her citizenship. If a passenger is lacking mandatory travel documents, he/she is liable for expenses incurred and can be denied boarding.

In case a payment cannot be completed as above, the payment will be handled at check-in counter for an extra fee of 10€/95SEK. To guarantee smooth boarding, please avoid direct payment, if possible.

Pets

PETS

Pets should be declared at the time of booking because only a certain number of animals is accepted on-board. Pets are allowed only in areas specifically reserved for that purpose or in a pre-booked pet cabin. Animals are not welcome to restoration areas, so please bring own bowls for water and food.

Driving instructions: The Port of Umeå is located about 20 km east of Umeå. Follow road E12 straight to the terminal.
Parking: Unguarded parking area outside terminal, charges apply.

For all reservations, the following passenger information is needed; first and last names, date of birth, sex and nationality. Be so kind to inform us about possible disabilities as well.

If tickets are to be used at another time than originally planned, the reservation must be modified. The changes should also be marked on the ticket. Any seasonal change in price is due, but no amendment fee is charged.

In case the original ticket has been lost, damaged or stolen, a new ticket must be acquired. The shipping company will reimburse unused and duly cancelled tickets only. Penalties may apply. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Rules for conduct for passengers

RULES OF CONDUCT FOR PASSENGERS

To ensure everybody’s welfare and safety on board, all passengers must respect the following rules of conduct:

– Passengers are liable for presenting a valid boarding pass while boarding the ship as well as upon request during transit.

– Passengers may be subjected to security checks before and during boarding. Also the passengers’ luggage and vehicle can be inspected. Passengers have to follow the existing passport, visa or staying permit regulations at the port of departure and that of destination, and produce a document issued by an official authority upon request. If the shipping company is any which way inflicted due to missing travel or other documents of a passenger, the passenger is liable for the expenses that might incur to the shipping company.

– Passenger can be denied boarding, if his/her travel documents are inadequate, he/she is intoxicated, behaving threateningly or is indecently dressed, if other passengers find him/her offensive or in presence of any other valid reason.

– Consumption of alcoholic beverages brought aboard and possession and use of narcotics are not permitted.

– Passengers are not allowed to bring hazardous objects or materials on-board. Open fire including candles, gas stoves, etc. is forbidden.

– Passengers must declare guns and other weapons at check-in before boarding. All weapons must be surrendered at the passenger information desk on-board for the length of transit. The weapons will be recovered against a receipt and identity card in the destination port.

– Pets must remain in areas designated for them or a pet cabin must be reserved for the length of transit. The pets are not allowed into restaurant premises.

– Passengers should always follow instructions given by the crew and respect the ship’s rules of conduct. The acting crew of the ship represents the ship’s captain regarding order, safety and security on-board and is obliged to take action when situation demands it.

– Passenger’s behaviour must not be of disturbance or threat to fellow passengers in any way during transit. Passenger unable to exercise self-control, or who behaves disturbingly and improperly, or who breaks security rules can be confined for the rest of transit.

– It is not permitted to consume alcoholic beverages purchased on-board before disembarking.

– Passengers are forbidden to consume their own food in the ship’s restaurants, with the exception of baby food and special dietary foods or beverages.

– Passengers are allowed only to areas designated for travellers.

– Loitering on car deck, repairing vehicles and handling fuel during transit is forbidden.

– Any theft, burglary or other illegal activity, such as shoplifting, will be reported to the police on all occasions. Any property, such as bedlinen, pillows, covers and chairs must not be removed from the cabin.

– Passenger causing damage on-board is liable for compensation. Any damage caused to the ship’s safety equipment will lead to prosecution. Passenger causing a false alarm or deliberately damaging the alarm system shall always be reported to the police.

– While on-board, passengers are not allowed to conduct business or other sales activities, to organize funds, run lotteries or propaganda events, to agitate or give political speeches, unless mutually agreed with the shipping company.

– A passenger refers to a person travelling on-board, but not belonging to the crew.

Safety on-board

SAFETY ON-BOARD

We encourage passengers to get to know the vessel’s safety instructions. At departure a short presentation on the ship’s safety instructions and lifesaving equipment is given. The crew is always at your disposal regarding safety matters.

Wasaline safety management system is constructed according to the international safety code – ISM –Code – and it is approved and certified by Trafi.

Notice for passengers with cars:
All lose goods inside the vehicle must be securely fixed.
Smoking and open fire are forbidden on car deck.
Loitering on car deck during transit is forbidden.
Doors to car deck are closed during transit and opened on arrival.
Follow instructions closely on car deck and do not start your engine until it is your turn to drive out.
Flammable liquids in open containers cannot be handled or stored on car deck.
Valve on gas containers in campers and caravans must be closed during transit.

Smoking on-board

SMOKING ON-BOARD

All public areas on-board are smoke free. Smoking is allowed in clearly designated outside deck areas only.

Ticket control and boarding

TICKET CONTROL

All tickets will be exchanged for boarding cards at check-in. Passengers are required to show the boarding card and be prepared to prove their identity before embarking. Check-in closes 15 minutes prior to departure.

Escorts are usually not allowed to enter the vessel. In case an escort is needed, please contact our sales or check-in.

Passengers with vehicles:
Passengers with vehicles must arrive at check-in one hour (1h) prior to departure at the latest. Reservations for late arrivals are not guaranteed and vehicle is put on a waiting list.

Passengers without vehicles:
Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before departure. The reservation of a late-arriving passenger will be considered cancelled. The gangway closes 15 minutes prior to departure.

Time zones and time on-board

TIME ZONES AND TIME ON-BOARD

All arrival and departure times are indicated in local time. Finland is one hour ahead (+1 h) of Sweden i.e. when the time is 13.00 in Finland, it is 12.00 in Sweden.

Time on-board is fixed at Finnish time.

Vehicles

VEHICLE INFORMATION
When making a reservation for a vehicle, the measurements of a car (height and length) as well as the type of vehicle must be stated. The pricelist for vehicles on Wasaline home page, like prices on advertisements and brochures are valid for passenger vehicles only. If a booked vehicle is found to exceed the given measurements, or the vehicle is registered as a freight vehicle, the customer will be charged a price according to the actual measurements or by freight rates. The vehicle will also be put on a waiting list. Wasaline will always strive to book a new place for the vehicle, but availability cannot always be guaranteed. Vehicles transporting goods for commercial purposes and ones registered for goods transportation must always be booked as freight vehicles.

Special assistance

According to EU regulation No 1177/2010 concerning the rights of passengers when travelling by sea and inland waterway (applied since 18 December 2012), disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility have the right to free of charge assistance by carriers and terminal operators in ports and on board ships, including with embarkation and disembarkation.

Disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility have to notify the carrier at the time of reservation or advance purchase of the ticket of their specific needs regarding accommodation, seating, required services or their need to bring medical equipment. For any other assistance the disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility need to notify the carrier or terminal operator at least 48 hours in advance and have to present themselves at an agreed time ahead of the published embarkation time at a designated point.
