Unchanged good result for Wasaline

Wasaline’s result was good despite the challenging year. Wasa Express was on shipyard for 3 weeks in January (6.127.1). The Finnish Seafarer’s Union’s support strike was in November, which affected that 8 departures were cancelled, and 4 departures was without cargo.

Turnover landed at the same level as the year before, at EUR 19.6 million. Passenger traffic sales increased by 6.3% and cargo sales decreased by 6.2%.

Profit before appropriations and taxes remained unchanged +EUR 2.1 million, despite the additional cost for the drydock which was approx. EUR 1 million.

Investments in the energy efficiency project continued during the year. The battery backup system for the auxiliary engines will be completed during the first quarter of 2020. On-board electricity consumption has decreased by 28.8% compared to 2018 with all this measures.

The average price of fuel decreased by 2.5% during the financial year. Due to this combined with the investments for energy savings, the fuel cost has decreased by 8.4%. The total fuel savings was 9.6%. The ice winter was mild, and the year’s maximum ice spread occurred already at the end of January. It was also a mild autumn / winter and ice-free throughout the end of the year.

The project with the construction of the new ferry continues at the Rauma Marine Constructions shipyard continues with an intensive stage throughout 2020. The new ferry, Aurora Botnia, will be the most environmentally friendly passengervessel and delivery will be in April 2021.
