Ekeri’s trailers become the first to be transported carbon neutrally from Finland to southern Sweden

Trailer manufacturer Ekeri and the shipping company Wasaline have been working together for over a year to provide carbon-neutral transport solutions. Now, this partnership reaches a new milestone: Ekeri’s trailers are being transported entirely carbon-neutrally from Vaasa in Finland to Southern Sweden, marking a first in the company’s history.

This achievement is made possible through intermodal transport, combining ferry crossing between Vaasa in Finland and Umeå in Sweden with onward rail transport to southern Sweden. Wasaline has already offered emission neutral logistics solutions with rail connections from the port for a while, enabling a climate-friendly logistics chain from start to finish.

“Sustainability demands innovative thinking,” says Daniel Asplund from Ekeri.

“At Ekeri, we are open to all solutions that contribute to reversing negative climate trends. When the opportunity arose to ship our huckepack trailers emission-free from port to our customer in Southern Sweden, we were eager to try it.”

Ekeri’s Our huckepack units are designed, certified and approved for railway transportation.

Ekeri already transports all its trailers carbon-neutrally with Wasaline, thanks to dedicated battery power allocation. By continuing the journey via intermodal rail transport, the entire logistics chain — from Vaasa, through Umeå, to southern Sweden — is now fully carbon-neutral.

“We see intermodal transport as the future of efficient, sustainable freight,” says Tony Ehrs, Freight Director at Wasaline.

“In the Port of Umeå, cargo is seamlessly transferred from vessel to rail, ensuring a smooth and green logistics flow.”

Wasaline offers the option to allocate battery power or biogas to shipments, enabling fully carbon-neutral transport. Capacity for these green logistics solutions remains available to customers.
